If you are on campus for other classes, you may want to go to the main library and discuss the databases, and the various ways to search for material, with one of the librarians, who are very nice and extremely helpful, especially for students working on their English 1 research papers. For this particular assignment, write four paragraphs following the guidelines to writing a research proposal found on pages 340-341 of A Writer's Reference. Your textbook states, "A proposal gives you an opportunity to...predict any difficulties or obstacles that might arise during your project....It also gives you the opportunity to seek feedback about your research question and search strategy" (340). Specifically, please consider the following questions when writing your proposal: • Research question. What question will you be exploring? Why does this question need to be asked? What do you hope to learn from the project? • Research conversation. What have you learned so far about the debate or the specific research conversation you will enter?
